Assault Rifle; is it overpowered?
« on: February 28, 2008, 07:04:25 PM »
Explain please. :)

edit: IMO I get really frustrated when someone is rushing me with an AR and i can only pull off 3 BR shots till they get to me for the melee.

Its so gay how i can pull off every BR round but i can't back step far enough to pull the last BR shot before they melee.

Unfortunately for me, I'm no pro at sticking and there's usually no time or space to avoid a melee after taking 6 shots.

Its also pretty damn accurate from medium range. I can lead my shots with an AR very well.

I have to say yes. You can say that an AR doesn't match BR all day long 'til you're blue in the face, but the AR is so spray n' pray it's rediculous. My BR usually takes 4-5 hits to kill. Very rarely must I squeeze the trigger a 6th time, but still, AR will win most of the time (with the exception of long range) due to greater rate of fire. I'm not opposed to the AR having a decent rate of fire and decent power, but let's face it. BR requires a great deal more skill, and I think that skill should be rewarded. I would like to see it take 2 body shots and a HS or 4 body shots to kill. I think that would be a fair ratio of the AR's rate of fire and the BR's power. I would leave the Carbine where it is though, since its rate of fire is so much higher than the BR. Just my 2 cents...  ;D

agreed and the carbine has a lower rate of fire then the BR but the carbine shots are stronger and yes the AR is madd overpoweredd i cannot agree enough but then again usually if your in a close battle i melee and try to BXB or shoot em down'

Yes, ever since I started using the BR I began to realize how much I hate the AR. It's absolutely ridiculously overpowered, my friend once said to me 'Holy ****! That AR has the power of a freakin shotgun!' haha, because he died so fast even though he was BR'ing me in the head way before I started shooting, and he has an accurate shot generally. I don't know if I'm alone on this one either but I'd prefer it if the AR had the same range as the SMG (wasn't it like that in the original Halo?).  ??? Is range the right word? You know, the aim thing, I'd prefer it if it was larger.

I agree 100%, although I don't really know what to say to add to that point, I couldn't agree more. I'm sick of the AR, I wish it actually wasn't in the game and they just had it set to BR's perm, but sometimes it is great fun to outgun the n00bs who start shooting at you with the AR from half way across the map, especially when I have a BR and 108 loaded rounds of lead.  ;D
