Foundry Tips and Tricks
Bungie Heatmap!
Bungie's Foundry Map Quick Tips:
After the orbital elevator fell, supply warehouses sending munitions to space were soon abandoned. Foundry an, empty-able shipping warehouse, is a collection of Halo staples: boxes, crates and ramps. Designed with customization in mind via the Forge, the Foundry’s default layout is symmetrical, but the “bases” are actually on the same side of the map. There’s a large structural divide between the two bases, funneling players into the map’s open and volatile center. A Shotgun spawns in the center of the map in the Carnage Alley that players must navigate in order to get to the other team’s base in Objective gametypes. Just above the Shotgun and a bit further back sits the Rocket Launcher. Each team has a Sniper Rifle at the opposite end of their base, from each base, getting to the Sniper Rifle requires crossing Carnage Alley. The Power Drainer sits atop a crate directly above and across from the Shotgun, with a perfectly timed crouch jump (where players click to crouch while they are in mid-air) from the lip of the Power Drainer spawn players can leap over the horror below and grab the Rocket Launcher. Key Foundry Map Locations Tips - The power weapons on Foundry are the Sniper Rifles, located at the back of the warehouse on either side leaning against a box. The Shotgun is located in the center on the bottom floor. And finally the Rocket Launcher, located in a box on the 2nd floor in the center. (contributed by: Halo 3 Expert Austin, added January 8, 2008) Other tips - What you need to know about Foundry: Foundry is another small map that does larger battles surprisingly well. This map is best suited--at least in its unadulterated state--for VIP, CTF, and Team Deathmatch. While both teams will start on the same side of the map, they will be forced out into the center to fight, as they are separated by crates. Bungie refers to the center area as Carnage Alley.Players should rush the center as fast as they can, but anticipate that the other team is doing the exact same thing. On the floor in the center is a shotgun, while the level's only rocket launcher is located in an upper cargo container in the center of the map. And remember, though you might be tempted to just rush these weapons, it will also be very important to control the Power Drainer that is on the upper crate close to where both teams start. The Power Drainer allows players to basically choke off a corridor if they want; it also works extremely well in this level because it is such tight quarters. If you want to use a sniper rifle you are going to have to work for it. The sniper rifles are located on the opposite side of the map from the bases, along the left or right side. While these weapons are powerful, the rows of boxes make them hard to use effectively anywhere but along the back wall. We recommend sticking to a Battle Rifle unless you are an excellent sniper. If you are playing VIP--which is a lot on this map--have your VIP hide in the back room by your base. Between the VIP, a teammate on guard duty, and the Bubble Shield that is located just outside the hiding room, you should be able to fight off most assaults. Foundry is simply to small a map to have your VIP out there playing aggressively. Many players forget that Foundry has an upper level, sticking only to the lower corridors. This is a huge mistake! Make sure that you vigilantly manage the upper levels--they will allow you to drop in on your opponents and keep your opponents away from the rocket launcher and Power Drainer. Players can manipulate and replace every object object within it to create their own custom arena. Here is an interview from Bungie.net about Halo 3 Foundry Map Q: Foundry is completely different from any map Bungie has made for a Halo game, how so? Christopher Barrett: Foundry was designed from the beginning to be a Forge level. There is an almost limitless amount of potential map designs that can be made by arranging objects in different configurations. You can remake Hang ‘Em High out of crates. Kind of. Steve Cotton: The second you see someone delete the entire level in Forge, you realize the potential a space like this has. The default layout Tyson put together is great, but the possibilities are definitely greater. Q: Was Foundry’s art inspired by areas from a Campaign space like Rat’s Nest? CB: We loved the feel of the Warehouse area in the campaign [on Voi] and it really made for an ideal playground that could be filled with lots of modular crates. Q: Tom Doyle called the Forge objects for Foundry “Legos” – what kinds of items are players going to have at their disposal? SC: Legos that look like all the things you might find in a Warehouse in Halo. CB: All the things you’ll need to make a great multiplayer playground. Man-sized crates, walls, fences, stairs, bridges, and of course fusion coils. I wouldn’t trust anything Tom Doyle says if I were you. He’s shifty. Q: What’s the default set-up on Foundry? What’s it built for? CB: The layout that will be include with the map is set up to work well to support as many gametypes as possible. But once players get a hold of it with Forge I can’t wait to see what people will do with it! Q: It’s not a huge map so what’s the ideal player count for Foundry’s shenanigans? CB: I can’t think of anything funny to say about this question other than being impressed you somehow fit shenanigans into one of the questions. SC: 4-12. Unless you're Barry and then probably 1. Playing Halo isn't the only thing he does by himself. Q: In daily playtests, what gametypes have been the most successful on Foundry? CB: Most gametypes work great on Foundry. I definitely had some memorable Territories and Assault games. Kill Barry, repeatedly, has been a popular one. SC: Yes. Kill Barry. As well as traditional Slayer and CTF. |
