Bungie Playlist Update December 2007. What's new?

On Guardian, (HC style) the Gravity Hammer has been replaced with a Sword.

There have been significant updates to many of the maps containing Maulers. (Thank God)

1. Guardian. All Maulers have been removed along with the Flare. That's the best update yet.
2. Construct. Both Maulers on top level have been removed. The bottom level ones take longer to respawn.
3. Epitaph. All Maulers have been removed and replaced with SMG's. They have 2 spare clips.

(contributed by: Halo 3 Expert Austin, added January 8, 2008)

Spartan Laser Tip - Wider Spartan Laser Beam. When the Spartan Laser is about to fire, spin left or right and the beam will get much bigger giving it a lot more range. (contributed by: willy825, added January 7, 2007)

Plasma Pistol Tip - One fully charged shot at an approaching ghost will temporarily stall it.... long enough to get a kill and hop on!!! (contributed by MLoete, added December 20, 2007)

Spartan Laser Tip - Since the laser tracking beam can alert your opponent to the impending blast, one tip is to lead the beam just far enough away from them while it is charging, then just before it fires, point it at them. Kablooey! (contributed by meestermole, added December 17, 2007)

Grenade Tips - Grenades are your friends, you cant get reported for doing grenade jumps, so go look some up. If someone is retreating try to throw a grenade where they WILL BE in a few seconds, not where they are. The art of grenade throwing takes a while to learn but it can be a very powerful tool. (contributed by: Dude, added December 12, 2007)

Wield the Sword - Energy Sword tips and info article from Halo'sFinest.com. As usual straight to the point tips article. Enjoy. (added November 25, 2007)

Weapons Guide - A nice article with short tips and tricks for each weapon. I like the screenshots! (added November 25, 2007)

Battle Rifle Tip - How do you use the battle rifle successfully? Body, Body, Body, Head… Put the first few shots into the body and then move to the head once the shields are down. Always be strafing, and use your strafing to make minute adjustments to your aim. (added November 14, 2007)

Expert Mauler Tips from Huub!

The first thing that I want to make clear is that THE MAULER RULES, here is the explanation and some tips:

1. Double wield the mauler! Use it with a medium range weapon so you will be able to shoot people running towards you even before they get close enough to shoot with the mauler and then if they get close enough, bam and they won't move a thing (remember: the mauler is a close combat weapon!).

2. If you decide not to double wield the mauler then use the following tactic: if the enemy is close enough to run to him without dieing before you get to him, then run to him and when in practicaly total hit range shoot and immediately after that melee him (the mauler is a very powerful melee weapon duo the knife attached to the bottom of it) and he won't be a problem anymore.

3. If you shoot at sombody with a mauler then always try aiming for the head for an instant kill.

4. Don't go shooting on somebody that isn't close by because you will barely hit him at all (unless he almost dead already of course)

5. If you use double wield maulers then either wait untill he's in total hit range and shoot or shoot early enough to shoot again before he reaches you.

6. Be aware of your ammo! A mauler does't have much ammo but luckely it's easy to find ammo for it.

7. Don't go running with a mauler in the open because it is a short range weapon.

Shotgun Tip: Fire the shotgun slightly beyond the one-shot range and instantly follow it with a melee. I've gotten more killing sprees with that trick on a close-quarters level than anything else. (contributed by: MaxPowerhouse7, added November 7, 2007)

Brute Spiker Tip

Power: Medium
Accuracy: Medium
Range: Short - Medium

The 'Type-25 Spiker Carbine' Aka the Brute Spiker, is a handheld, rapid-firing, spike-launching gun that can be dual wielded for maximum damage. It's fast firing rate ensures enemies are 'Pinned down' (sorry for pun) under fire and it is quite versatile as well. It has a 40 spike clip, and is similar to the SMG, however due to it's weight, it has no recoil. It has a very quick reload, and can be used as a close- medium ranged weapon without losing too much of
it's accuracy. As with the SMG, it can be dual wielded for maximum effect, and when coupled with a plasma rifle, can take down an enemy's shields quickly, followed by a spray of spikes.

The spiker can burn through flesh and armor with ease, but when facing a shielded enemy, it is better to go in with a melee strike first. As with most brute weapons, it holds a powerful blade underneath, allowing for deadly melee attacks. This, in combination with it's fast ROF, makes it an ideal close range weapon.

Counter With: Shotgun, Battle Rifle, Carbine

Sword Play: A nice tip to win almost every sword matche. Lunge, Melee, Lunge. It's the perfect combo. (contributed by: Austin, added November 2, 2007)

I love the Mauler - Here is a very short article written about the Mauler. This guy loves it! Is he wrong or do you like it also? (added October 25, 2007)

Grenades Tip: (responding to how to avoid grenades) It's not so much of an issue that you're not reacting to the nade in time, but I think a big part of it is that you haven't quite learned to EXPECT the grenade before it comes. I can by your descriptions that you'd be the type of person who gets killed a lot when you're on the retreat from a fight you were losing and you duck around a hallway, only to have your opponent always seem to peek and throw a "perfect" nade (one that kills you) around the corner.

If that describes you well, then your problem is most likely that you're too predictable in your actions when you're low on health. You've gotta learn to expect the grenade and learn where people are gonna throw it. In retreat situations, people throw nades generally in two ways: a) to keep you from getting in to their area when their health is low (right by the corner of the door to block) or b) to finish the kill if they think you'll retreat first (far down the hall). If you're right next to the door, they'll probably go w/ nade-a and try to bounce it to your position, so jump backwards away from the nade and face them (to keep them from getting an easy kill by shooting you in the back). Do not try to beat the nade and go for the kill - this fight is one you'll probably have to abandon. If you're farther away, you'll get nade-b and they'll peek around the corner to lob one to you, so jump forwards closer to the door or jump sideways out of the way.

If you find yourself dying a lot behind cover from long range nades, then you need to move faster from your immediate cover into a safer area. Cover only blocks bullets, not nades, which can do damage from around the corner. Hide yourself behind cover from their bullets and when you hear their bullets stop for a split second, then move because that's when they're gonna throw the nade. Avoid it if you can, but it's better to expose yourself to bullets for a split second than to stay in place and hope the grenade misses. And as a rule, if the first grenade hits you and you don't die, there WILL be a second and the second will hit without a doubt.

Ultimately, the idea behind not getting killed by grenades is anticipation. Eventually you will become better at predicting what people will do in fights against you and you should find yourself dying less and less as your Halo-intuition becomes more developed. Just keep thinking about what you did wrong when you died and internalize it until you develop a successful way of playing. (contributed by: justpeeking, added October 21, 2007)

Grenades Tip: The easiest way to avoid a gernade (or atleast reduce the damage you take) is to jump and plan on being at the height of your jump when the gernade explodes. H3's nades have a rediculously small blast radius so you should be able to jump away from most gernades. You can even start a game yurself and practice throwing gernades (all types) and try a few things- 1) learn how long it takes them to explode once you throw them (this will give you a better idea of how long you have to manuver out of the way once you see or hear one coming). 2) throw nades near you and learn how big their blast radius is, get a feel for how much damage you take (if any) when you are a certain distance from a nade. This will allow you to know how you need to react to a gernade (if you're far enough away you won't have to do anything, or if a plasma lands at yur feet u better run and jump). Halo 3 Balancing Changes. What is different now?
(Source: IGN, added October 18, 2007)

Assault Rifle: Weak at long range, weak at medium range, decent at medium-close and close range. Generally, you'll want to fire off about a half clip and then follow with a melee strike for the quickest kill.

Battle Rifle: Good at all ranges. Three body shots will completely drain opponents' shields. One head shot to an opponent with drained shields will kill. Highly recommended.

Shotgun: Great close range, poor everywhere else. At close range, you can get one-hit kills. If you shoot too early, immediately follow with a melee strike and you should get the kill. When in shotgun battles, studder your approach to get the opponent to fire early, letting you move in for the kill.

Sniper Rifle: Great at long range, difficult at others. Two shots anywhere will kill an opponent, as will just one head shot. Up close, backpedal with the Sniper Rifle and try to line up the opponent in the center of your screen (not zoomed in).

SMG: Useless pretty much everywhere. Weaker than the Assault Rifle, though it does allow a dual-wield. If you're going to use an SMG, be sure to back it up with another dual-wield weapon.

Spiker: More accurate than an SMG and Assault Rifle, and it can be dual-wielded. Not too bad at medium-close range, but up close (or any further away) we'd choose something else.

Magnum: Nowhere near the original Halo pistol power, but it's better than Halo 2's Magnum. This one takes five shots to kill—first four can be anywhere on the body, fifth must be a headshot. Good accuracy from range, but slow firerate. Consider it a pocket-size Battle Rifle with just a bit less power.

Plasma Pistol: Individual shots are useless, but the Plasma Pistol's charge shot is very effective. One shot completely drains opponent shield, letting you switch to a Battle Rifle or Magnum to follow with one head shot for the kill. Can also follow charged shot with a melee punch for an instant kill using just the Plasma Pistol. Beware that charged shot's tracking is not as good as it is in Halo 2.

Plasma Rifle: Decent accuracy, but slow shots make it difficult to hit opponents at range. Drains shields quickly but not health—we suggest following a few shots with a melee strike for the quickest kill.

Needler: Way improved over previous Halo games, the Needler requires only a half a clip to kill. However, bullet tracking is less effective than before. Best used at medium range, usually backpedalling away from opponents with less rangey guns.

A Note From Huub: But remember that the needler is a very bad melee weapen and so I recommend not to melee sombody with it but to stay at a medium-short range when attacking. (added November 10, 2007)

Beam Rifle: Essentially a Sniper Rifle without clips so you never need to reload. However, you must limit your rate of fire to avoid getting knocked out of zoom by overheating. The human Sniper Rifle is better, but this definitely isn't bad.

Brute Shot: Also improved over Halo 2's Brute Shot. Grenades now keep a straight trajectory instead of arcing. Damage isn't great, but four shots will kill. Actually best used in tight areas, as one shot followed by one melee strike will kill.

Rocket Launcher: As powerful as ever—one shot will kill most anything. However, the Rocket Launhcer no longer has a locking ability, forcing you to actually have good aim if you want to take down vehicles.

Spartan Laser: Devastating power, but must slowly charge up before firing. Best used against vehicles from a distance (it zooms!) but it's also effective against infantry. When running around, constantly charge the gun and release the trigger just before firing. This way you're most likely to have a charge when you need it.

A Note From Huub: The Spartan Laser can also be used as a sniper but of course you can't zoom in as much as a sniper, but a hit will always result in a kill. (added November 10, 2007)

Energy Sword: Range is reduced since Halo 2 and the Energy Sword now has limited uses. However, it's still very effective at close range. Switching from one weapon to the Energy Sword is slow now, making it more difficult to switch on the fly. Melee button causes quicker attack that does not lunge, however you can use it to psyche an opponent into thinking you've wanted your lunge.

Gravity Hammer: It kills. Range is short, but it destroys vehicles and infantry with a single blow. Good in close, but miserable at any other range. Gravity Hammer does not have the range of the Energy Sword.

Covenant Carbine: Very good accuracy at range, but it takes a lot of shots to kill. We recommend the Battle Rifle over the Carbine, but don't discount the Carbine. It's a good gun we'd pick over the
Assault Rifle in most situations.

Mauler: Sort of a Shotgun-lite, however no single shot from the Mauler will drop an opponent instantly. You can dual-wield the Mauler for instant kills, but we'd still pick the Shotgun over the combo to allow for melee attacks. The gun is awful at range so it doesn't come very recommended unless you're on a map where you can quickly follow with a melee strike for a quick kill.

Sentinel Beam: Surprisingly good, and way better than the Sentinel Beam in Halo 2. Drains shields and health very quickly and the beam has decent range. A good medium-close range weapon.

Flamethrower: Very short range and only does considerable damage if the target doesn't move. The weapon's best use is for temporarily blinding opponents. We say meh.

(end of article)

Battle Rifle Tip: yeah just play more with it, and one thing i noticed is it helps to aim a smidge to the left of the people when they're strafing to the right and your going left. and vice versa. (contributed by: iianubisll)

Battle Rifle Tip: try this it worked for me in h2 ...... start a party (mlg rules TS) wit u and a friend ... u go red and he will go red as well ... practice shooting each other it will be harder from NO autoaim... so wen u get in a game with auto aim ur aim for body and HS will be better... people say that this will mess u up cuz u get used to no auto aim .. but it jus like going up in senz and going back down helps u steady ur br ... give it a try man it worked for me ..... (contributed by: iI M3GaTRON Ii)

Grenades Tip: use the walls thats the biggest thing. learn the bounces and walls to hit to get grenades in a certain corner and like martyrzor said timing granades while being chased is also very usefull. a perfect grenade leaves a one headshot kill. (contributed by: GSo-STuB-BoRN)

Grenades Tip: A good tip is to jump and throw the nade so that it bounces INTO YOUR OPPONENT...and then it blows up. UNLIKE STICKIES you want your nade to bounce and then blow up into them. For stickies you want to try and stick their feet, the closer the throw the better. If jumping and then throwing the nade is not an option during the battle, then try to not bounce it and aim for the feet then practice practice practice.... (contributed by: Krazy_Nades)

Gravity Hammer Tip: It will do a short lunge like the sword but you will mostly want to use it for area-effect damage. If a vehicle is trying to run you over, just hit the vehicle and send it flying! If someone throws a grenade at you the shockwave from the hammer will send the grenade flying back!

Spike Grenade Tip: I’m a bit disappointed at how the majority of players use the spike grenades. They throw it on the ground and watch the spikes shoot up. People need to realize that it’s effective in narrow places or on walls. They make great sticks as well but don’t throw the spike grenades on the ground cause it’s not going to do anything unless someone runs over it. (added October 13, 2007) (contributed by: lonman06)

Halo 3 Sniper Tips - by socorban (added October 6, 2007)

- It doesn't have to be a head shot all the time for a one shot kill. Shoulder line usually does it too. This gives you a slightly broader range of area to hit for a kill.

- Always walk with you rifle pointing at about head or upper shoulder level. If some one pops around the corner and your finger are fast enough... down they go.

- If your targeting an unsuspecting victim from afar target near them and walk into the shot. Its much easier to line up the head shot this way than flinching around looking.

- If they jump, which is a horrible thing to do when trying to avoid a sniper. Just lead there landing and fire when they come to you.

- Always lead a shot by a hair. this give you more margin for error.

- If you miss realign, dont waste the amo on a trigger happy mishot.

- Never give up your nest if its not a sure shot. Especially if its teams and you dont know were the other players are. You may not be the only one with a rifle.

- Shoot and move. I sniper who stays in one spot is a dead sniper.
